Could Oz Cobb return to our screens? Here’s what we know about a possible The Penguin season 2

In a shocking, memorable finale, The Penguin ended in a final, dramatic confrontation between Colin Farrell’s Oz Cobb and Cristin Milioti’s Sofia Gigante, nee Sofia Falcone. But this season, the tension between the two vying for control of Gotham’s criminal empire has been palpable; in the end, Oz comes out on top, sending Sofia back to Arkham. But is that really the end for The Penguin? Although not confirmed as yet by HBO, The Penguin season 2, the dramatic conclusion leaves a mountain of possibilities for a return. Now that Oz is helming the Gotham underworld, the next season can give a sense of what this looks and feels like and what the obstacles will be in order for Oz to progress further. It is most definitely going to be a conflict-ridden path, full of power plays and new challenges. The opportunity open to a season 2 of The Penguin is thus one pretty exciting prospect.
The Penguin Season 2
Given Sofia’s compelling character, there is much speculation that she will not be in jail for long, as it’s far too interesting to be stuck in confinement. The season finale saw Sofia receive a letter from Selina Kyle, aka Catwoman, who is her half-sister. Though the letter remains unread, it perhaps gives a hint as to where Sofia’s storyline might be going next. The development may be suggesting that the character is more aligned with The Batman 2 rather than a second season of The Penguin. The series aims to bridge the story between director Matt Reeves’ The Batman and its highly-anticipated sequel, which will now release in 2026 after some delays. In the final scene of The Penguin, the Bat-Signal shines across the night sky, with a clear signal that what seemed to be a setup for a direct link to the return of the Dark Knight. However, a few comments by the showrunners suggest they may well be open to The Penguin season 2 if a compelling story emerges, and it would appear that Sofia’s arc could be integral to that. Showrunner Lauren LeFranc told The Direct that, for a second season to happen, they’d need to feel that they can exceed what was done in the first, adding deep commitment with the characters-yes, even when they’re morally gray. Actress Milioti spoke with AOL about how she would love to reprise the role, whether for The Batman 2 or a possible second season of The Penguin. But that may require a little more convincing for Oz’s actor Colin Farrell, who reveals to Total Film, “I love the role of Oz; it’s such a great role. But, you know, four hours and 15 minutes in the chair every day gets exhausting.” Because of that, he has mentioned he is not sure if he will return for season two. At this rate of popularity, news regarding any continuation for The Penguin and its characters is worth keeping an eye on.
